New York Day Women is a lyrical short film about a young Haitian American woman who unexpectedly sees her mother walking through Manhattan in the middle of a workday. As she trails her through the city, observing her from a distance, what begins as curiosity unfolds into a tender reckoning—with identity, inheritance, and the independent strength of mothers.
Adapted from Soho Press short story New York Day Women by Haitian American novelist Edwidge Danticat, the film explores the gaps between generations, the silences between mothers and daughters, and the invisible labor of women who shape our worlds in ways we often fail to understand.
Set against the backdrop of New York’s rhythm and restlessness, New York Day Women is an ode to seeing the women who raised us—not just as mothers, but as forces of resilience, grace, and history.
